Guided Tour Options

Reservations for private, one-hour tours are required and we ask that you make arrangements for your visit at least two months in advance. Specialized tours for professionals, high school or college students, or other groups are available by arrangement. Tyler Arboretum offers ample bus parking.

Spring Glory Tour (April to May), 1/2 mile walk with some grade and walking surface changes

No better way to get ourselves ready for the new growing season than to see what is popping in the Arboretum.  Come join us on a tour of our specialty collections of cherries, magnolias and our fantastic rhododendron garden.

Woodland Wildflower Tour (April to early May), Less than .25 mile on mulched paths.

Join us on this easy walk under the cover of tulip poplars and paw paws as we explore the woodland wildflower drifts in our woods.  It is still very bright in the woods and spring ephemerals are taking advantage of this.  Find out why.

The Summer Garden Essentials tour (June to July), 1/2 mile walk with some grade and walking surface changes.

Short of time and need to see the 2016 highlights of our core garden areas?  This is for you.  We will explore the Fragrant Garden, Vegetable Garden and butterfly habitat areas. Ideas are sure to be picked up on this easy walking tour.

From Woodlands to Meadow (September to October), 1/2 mile walk with grade and walking surface changes.

Asters, little blue stem and swamp sunflowers, just some of the magic that happens in late summer in our woods and meadows. Bring a hat and camera.

Fall is for Foliage and Fruit (late September to end of October), 1/2 mile walk with some grade and walking surface changes.

The Mid-Atlantic has some of the best fall foliage shows.  Oranges, burgundies, and apricots—we’ve got these colors in the landscape. Join us for an easy walk and bring your camera.

Any time:

Historic Painter Tour, 1-1½ hour

Tour of the Minshall/Painter homestead including Lachford Hall, Painter Library, the Springhouse, the Fruit Vault and the Greenhouse, as well as the historic 19th century Painter plants. Discover the story of this family of early Quakers farmers and tradesmen and how they shaped the land. 1/2 mile walk with some grade and walking surface changes.

Champion Trees Tour, 1 – 1 ½ hour, 1/2 mile walk with some grade and walking surface changes.

We have some of the biggest and oldest trees in this region.  It is not only about size!! We will cover the function these trees provide in nature as well as some of the historical uses of the trees.

Guided Group Tour Rates and Policy

Groups of 10 people or more who are interested in a guided tour must schedule at least two months in advance. The cost is $20 per person (which includes admission, no coupons or discounts may be applied to this rate). A $100 deposit is due no later 2 weeks prior to tour date. The balance is expected to be paid prior to the start of the tour. Our minimum charge for guided group tours is $160.

Tours are given rain or shine. Please dress accordingly. We suggest wearing comfortable shoes, hat, sun protection, and insect repellent. You may bring your camera or binoculars.

If the tour is cancelled by Tyler Arboretum, a full refund will be made.

If the tour is cancelled by the group, no refunds will be made if noticed is given less than 2 weeks of the tour.  If notice is given before 2 weeks, the deposit will be returned.

School Field Trips: The Arboretum offers an extensive diversity of field trip and outreach programs designed to meet curriculum standards for pre-school and elementary grades. Curriculum can also be adapted to meet the needs of home school groups. View School Programs for detailed descriptions.

Summer Camp Groups: Tyler is a great destination for camps that want to explore the natural world. Many of our School Programs can be adapted for visiting summer camps or custom options can be arranged.

Scout and Youth Groups: A variety of hands-on exploratory programs are available that focus on nature, plants, and animals. Many of the programs qualify for badges. See Scout Programs for addition information.

Group Admission Options

Group Admission Options

Adult and Youth Groups may visit the Arboretum on their own. Our Visitor Guide (including a map and garden features) and Trails Map are available at the Visitor Center or online.

Group Admission Rates

Groups (10 or more) that wish to visit the Arboretum without a guide may receive $1 off admission per person with a minimum of 24 hours advance notice.

  • Adults (18 – 64): $14
  • Seniors (65+): $12
  • Youth (3 – 17): $8
  • Military and students (with current, valid ID): $8
  • Children age 2 and under: free

Note: You must contact us with a minimum of 24 hours advance notice in order to get the reduced group rate. Guest passes cannot be used for group admissions. To prevent backup at the Visitor’s Center, please collect one payment from entire group before arrival.
