Tyler is a special destination for your group outing. In every season there is an opportunity to experience something beautiful at the Arboretum. See beautiful blooming garden plants and wildflowers, fun tree houses and interactive spaces, majestic heritage trees, and historic buildings. Guided Tours or self-guided options are available.

The Arboretum is an outdoor museum. You will be most comfortable if you dress for the weather and wear casual clothing with comfortable walking shoes.

Private Tours for Adult Groups

Reservations for private tours are required and we ask that you make arrangements for your visit at least two months in advance. Specialized tours for professionals, high school or college students, or other groups are available by arrangement. Tyler Arboretum offers ample bus parking.

Garden Highlights Tour, 1-2 hours

  • Flowers of Spring – Cherries, magnolias, and bulbs in the early spring and rhododendrons, azaleas, lilacs and wildflowers in late spring.
  • Summer Highlights – Painter trees, Herb Garden, Native Plants, Meadow Maze.
  • Glories of Fall – Trees with good fall foliage and the Meadow Maze.

Historic Painter Tour, 1-1½ hour
Tour of the Minshall/Painter homestead including Lachford Hall, the free-standing Painter Library, Springhouse, Fruit Vault and Greenhouse, as well as the historic 19th century Painter Trees. Discover the story of this family of early Quakers farmers and tradesmen and how they shaped the land.

Habitat Gardening, 1-2 hours
Tour of the Bird and Butterfly Gardens, Native Woodland Walk, Meadow Maze, and Butterfly River.

Maple Sugaring, 45 minutes – 1 hour
See trees being tapped; sap being boiled down to syrup! (Late January – early March)

Guided Group Tour Rates

Groups that would prefer a guided tour must schedule at least two months in advance.

  • Adults (16-64), $12
  • Seniors (65+), $10

School Field Trips: The Arboretum offers an extensive diversity of field trip and outreach programs designed to meet curriculum standards for pre-school and elementary grades. Curriculum can also be adapted to meet the needs of home School groups. View School Programs for detailed descriptions.

Summer Camp Groups: Tyler is a great destination for camps that want to explore the natural world. Many of our School Programs can be adapted for visiting summer camps or custom options can be arranged.

Scout and Youth Groups: A variety of hands-on exploratory programs are available that focus on nature, plants, and animals. Many of the programs qualify for badges. See Scout Programs for addition information.

Self-Guided Group Tours

Self-Guided Tour Options

Adult Groups may visit the Arboretum on their own. Our Visitor Guide (including a map and garden features) and Trail Map are available at the Visitor Center.

Youth Groups are also welcome to visit the Arboretum on their own.

Self-guided Group Tour Rates

Groups (15 or more) that wish to visit the Arboretum without a guide may receive $1 off admission per person with a minimum of 24 hours advance notice. To make arrangements, please contact the Visitor Center at 610-566-9134, ext. 212.
