Woodland Winter Wonderland promises holiday fun with historic flair

MEDIA, Pa (November 19, 2013) – Bundle up and join Tyler Arboretum in celebrating nature and the winter season with some simple old-fashioned fun that will get you in the true spirit of the holiday season. The Woodland Winter Wonderland celebration will be held at Tyler on Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Held concurrently with the Country Gardeners Greens Sale on the same day from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., this day promises to kick off the holiday season in style.

The public is invited to attend this rain or shine holiday event at Tyler. Activities for the day include hayrides, unique crafts for the kids including natural ornaments using materials gathered at Tyler, a Reindeer Scavenger Hunt for the kids, hot beverages and cookies around a camp fire, historic tours of Lachford Hall and an opportunity to have a professional family portrait taken in our antique sleigh.

“Craig Single is a wonderful professional photographer on our Board of Trustees and he will be taking portraits of families in our sleigh, which will be decorated for the holidays,” said Sally Rogers, Special Events Manager at Tyler. “This is a great opportunity to have a unique, professional image for your holiday cards while contributing a nominal donation of $10 to Tyler.”

Rounding out the day’s events is the Country Gardeners Greens Sale, which will run from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the maintenance building at Tyler. Visitors are invited to get some holiday shopping done early at this popular sale filled with handmade decorations and ornaments.

“Tyler is a beautiful place to visit year round, but not as many people take advantage of our natural setting during the holidays,” said Rick Colbert, Executive Director at Tyler. “Seeing this place decorated like it would have looked in the 1850’s and doing some of the activities people in that era would do around this time of year really helps us connect with the historic legacy that Tyler has sought to preserve over the generations.”

The Woodland Winter Wonderland celebration is free for members and free with admission for non-members.  There is no charge for entry to the Country Gardeners Greens Sale. There is limited capacity for hayrides and photos; sign-ups for each of these activities will be on site at the event and are first come, first served. Photos are an additional $10 charge, with all proceeds going to Tyler Arboretum.

Pre-registration is required. Please contact Joanne Landau at jlandau@tylerarboretum.org or (610) 566-9134 ext. 215. For more information, visit www.TylerArboretum.org/events/woodland-winter-wonderland/.
