VISITOR CENTER ASSOCIATE
Tyler Arboretum is seeking a temporary part time Visitor Center
Associate.
Responsibilities:
Greeting and assisting visitors, collecting admission, selling
merchandise, processing membership and program registrations, and
answering the phone. This position involves using a cash register,
credit card machine, and a computer.
Qualifications: Enthusiastic
individual with excellent people skills to serve as an ambassador
for the Arboretum. Retail or customer service experience is helpful,
but not necessary. Experience with Microsoft Office software is
needed to perform daily tasks. We are looking for someone who can
handle multi tasking and thinking quick on his/her feet.
Duration and Hours:
This position is to assist with our visitors for the duration of our
Totally Terrific Treehouses
exhibit this summer, from May 31st to September 28th.
The amount of hours will vary from 10-15 hours per week, including
weekends and some weekdays.

SUMMER CAMP EDUCATORS:
Position: Tyler Arboretum seeks energetic individuals to join our team as camp educators for our full and half-day children's summer camps. Individuals will supervise camp participants and facilitate hands-on nature activities, games, crafts, and discovery hikes.
Qualifications: Applicants must enjoy teaching children in an outdoor setting; have knowledge of the natural environment and skills in teaching and motivating students.
Educators should be enthusiastic, responsible, and willing and able to take charge.
Duration: The camp runs from June 23rd to August 4th (week of July 4th off) with pre-camp training June 16th to the 20th. Educators rotate pre- and post- camp childcare.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.

HORTICULTURE INTERNSHIP:
Position: The Horticulture Intern at Tyler Arboretum will have the opportunity to work with Tyler's experienced and knowledgeable Horticulture Staff to assist with daily maintenance and ongoing development of both garden spaces and natural areas. This position will work with staff and volunteers to evaluate existing plant material, maintain beds, learn mapping and plant records, grounds maintenance activities, minor repair of equipment and tools and pest and weed control. This position will also work with staff and our Butterfly House Intern in the maintenance of our butterfly house.
Interns are encouraged to participate in Tyler's educational opportunities (i.e., wildflower walks, bird walks, butterfly walks, history walks) and as well as networking with professionals and attending field trips.
This is an opportunity for interns to gain useful insight working with staff caring for horticultural collections and natural areas, planning and leading projects, writing articles and managing volunteers. Credit or Internship requirements can be arranged as needed.
Qualifications: Candidates must be self-directed, organized, responsible, and possess good written and verbal communication skills. Horticulture education (or related field) and experience is desirable as well as a willingness to work with volunteers and the ability to work independently.
Hours/Duration: A maximum of 10 weeks beginning as early as May and extending as late as September. Time frame is flexible. Work week is 37.5 hours Monday - Friday.
Compensation: $10.00/hour.

WISTER RHODODENDRON COLLECTION INTERNSHIP:
Position: The Wister Rhododendron Collection Intern at Tyler Arboretum will have the opportunity to work with Tyler's experienced and knowledgeable Horticulture Staff to assist with daily maintenance and ongoing transformation of this Collection into a garden. This position will work with staff to evaluate existing plant material, maintain beds, learn mapping and plant records and assist with further development of this space. This position will also work with staff and volunteers in the maintenance of other areas of the Arboretum to diversify their development.
