School field trip subjects include:

Animals in Winter 1 hour

As students discuss what different animals and insects eat they learn why some migrate, some hibernate, and some stay active all winter. Exploring natural artifacts, they learn where animals and insects live and the tracks and traces they leave behind. This program includes a simple craft and is held entirely indoors; an outdoor walk is optional.
Limited to 50 students

Mini-Explorers Programs

Mini-Explorer Programs are very experiential and are designed so participants use their senses as they explore what is happening with plants, animals, and insects seasonally. Programs can be taken individually, but coming to more than one is an ideal way for students to learn about seasonal change in the natural world.

Fall Mini-Explorers 1 hour

Using their senses, students discover how plants and animals prepare for winter. They learn why trees lose their leaves;how seeds find new homes; where birds, turtles, and frogs go; and what grasshoppers are up to. This program can be taught with a bird, deer, or insect emphasis.
Limited to 50 students

Winter Mini-Explorers 1 hour

There’s a lot to discover on a winter walk! What are the birds eating? How do plants protect the tiny flower and leaf buds waiting to open in spring? Where do some animals
hibernate, and which ones are still active through the cold months? Play a game to learn how Bobwhite birds stay warm.

Spring Mini-Explorers 1 hour

Students use their senses to explore all that is changing in spring. A color hunt helps them find flowers. Playing a bee game helps them discover bee behavior and how these insects help flowers produce seeds. Discovering baby trees helps them learn about plant life cycles. This program can be taught with a bird, deer, or insect emphasis.
