Rick Colbert has 30 years of progressive experience in public horticulture and has served as the Executive Director of Tyler Arboretum for the past 20 years. He received his B.S. in Agriculture, with an emphasis on plant science and ornamental horticulture, and M.B.A. from the University of Delaware. Mr. Colbert has served as a peer reviewer for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, as a board member of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta, and on the Arthur Hoyt Scott Medal Award Committee and The Pennsylvania Horticulture Society Award Committee. His work has been recognized through honors such as the Award of Merit from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the Outstanding Professional Member Award of the Middletown Township Business and Professional Association.

Mike Karkowski

Mike came to Tyler in 2004. He is responsible for the management of the Arboretum’s Horticulture Department, which maintains Tyler’s collections, plant records, natural areas, hiking trails and historic buildings. Mike earned a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in Landscape Horticulture and Design. His previous work includes Horticulturist and Director of Physical Plant and Grounds for The American College and Hardscape Consultant for a North Shore firm in the Chicagoland area. Mike enjoys building projects at home and church, building tree houses for his two children and kayaking with family.
Betsey A. Ney

Betsey came to Tyler in 2001. She is responsible for the management of the Arboretum’s Education Department and oversees the coordination of volunteer services and Visitor Center staff and operations. Betsey earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Delaware in Plant Science with a concentration in Ornamental Horticulture and a Master of Science degree in Public Horticulture from the Longwood Graduate Program and the University of Delaware. Her previous work includes Horticulturist for Somerset County Park Commission (NJ) and Visitor Education Specialist and Continuing Education Coordinator at Longwood Gardens. Betsey is happiest working in her garden, walking her dog, hiking in the woods, kayaking on quiet waters, or cross country skiing.
